CCpur, June 11 2025:
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has expressed deep outrage and vehement condemnation over the National Investigation Agency (NIA) branding Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal (KIT), a federating unit of KIM, as an insurgent group.
In a press release issued Wednesday, KIM information secretary said that Kuki Inpi is the traditional socio-political institution and apex governing body of the Kuki people established with a motive to preserve customary laws, promote peace and represent the voice of the Kuki people.
The branding of such a time-honoured and revered institution as an insurgent group by the NIA is grave ignorance, irresponsible, and an alarming mischaracterisation of indigenous institutions, it asserted.
Maintaining that this comes at a time when the Kuki-Zo people are facing an existential crisis under the watch of the Manipur state leadership, KIM said that the callous labelling of a community-rooted institution like KIT as an insurgent body is not only factually wrong, but also an affront to the dignity, resilience, and self -governance of the Kuki people.
KIM called upon the NIA to immediately withdraw and rectify such erroneous and inflammatory allegations and to engage in responsible and informed dialogue with indigenous institutions rather than perpetuating narratives that may further inflame an already volatile situation.
