Imphal, June 06 2025:
Marking the first year of his election to the Lok Sabha, Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Tuesday recalled June 4, 2024, as a significant day when the people of Manipur exercised the true strength of democracy by choosing conviction over money and power.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Lok Sabha MP reflected on the day the election results were declared, calling it the beginning of his journey as a public representative.
Dr Bimol said that the trust placed in him by the people had become a source of strength and motivation to raise their voice inside and outside parliament.
He noted that the moment was not just a personal milestone but also a demonstration of democratic will, where the people asserted their right to be heard and not silenced by influence or intimidation.
On that day, he pledged to carry the aspirations of the people with full commitment and has since been making efforts to fulfil that responsibility.
Dr Bimol acknowledged the human element in public service, noting that like any individual, he too has strengths and weaknesses, good and bad attributes.
He stressed the importance of self-reflection and the need to continuously improve, while adding that recognising and working on one's flaws is essential, particularly for those entrusted with public responsibilities.
Highlighting the importance of empathy and critical thinking in addressing the state's challenges, Dr Bimol said that a new and united Manipur could only be built by treating all communities and individuals equally and approaching every issue with clear resolve and inclusive intent.
He pointed out that the current flood crisis is not an isolated or unexpected event but part of a recurring pattern that has long been evident.
Despite prior knowledge of the risks, the state continues to suffer from similar disasters.
Dr Bimol said that he joined relief efforts in his capacity both as a representative and as a fellow human being to provide some form of assistance to the affected people.
However, he underlined the need to shift focus from immediate relief to long-term preventive measures.
He called on all stakeholders to come together with a shared vision to address root Causes and ensure that similar crises do not repeat in the future.
