Chandel, October 04 2025: In a poignant ceremony held at the Battalion Headquarters in Modi, Chandel, personnel of Assam Rifles gathered to pay heartfelt tribute to Late Nk Tara Singh, who laid down his life in the line of duty on October 4,1995 during a counter-insurgency operation in Lalapura, Jammu & Kashmir.

The solemn occasion marked the 30th anniversary of his supreme sacrifice and was attended by a total of 169 Assam Rifles personnel, reflecting the deep reverence and collective pride of the Force, said a statement issued by IGAR (S) .

Nk Tara Singh was part of a patrol tasked with sanitising a sensitive area when his column came under sudden militant ambush.

In the face of grave danger, he exhibited extraordinary courage and tactical acumen, retaliating with precise and determined fire.

His valiant action enabled his comrades to effectively neutralise the threat and regain control of the situation.

Despite sustaining fatal gunshot wounds, he continued to lead from the front, embodying the highest traditions of Assam Rifles and the spirit of selfless service to the Nation.

The wreath-laying ceremony was conducted with fall military honours.
