Imphal, September 02 2024:
The manner in which Kuki militants launched attacks on Sunday was a serious threat to national security, cautioned former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh and expressed serious concern for safety of civilians when even the Raj Bhavan and CM's Bungalow are vulnerable in the emerging situation.
A delegation of INDIA bloc led by O Ibobi, who is also Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya through the secretary to the Governor on Monday.
After submitting the memorandum, Ibobi addressed the media at Congress Bhawan here, stating that both state and central governments are unable to protect lives and properties of the people.
The attack carried out by Kuki militants using drones on civilians in Koutruk village on Sunday is undeniable threat to national security.
Considering the emerging situation, a delegation of INDIA bloc submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya requesting immediate steps to convince the people that there is a government to protect their lives and properties.
The changing situation in the state after Sunday's attack made it crystal clear that innocent civilians are most vulnerable for even the Raj Bhavan and CM Bungalow are unsafe now contrary to the Modi government seemingly opting to maintain silence unmindful of the precarious situation besieging Manipur, he said and criticised PM Modi's inaction.
While informing that INDIA bloc submitted the memorandum to draw attention of the Governor to the changing situation in the state after Sunday's attack, O Ibobi cautioned that the violence in the state since May 3, 2023 could no longer be construed as law-and-order problem as could be comprehended from use of modern warfare technologies generally associated with conflicts between countries.
The evolving situation undoubtedly poses serious threat to national security, he remarked adding that there is possibility drones dropping bombs anywhere in the state, possibly Raj Bhavan and CM's Bungalow.
The Constitution of India em powers a state to protect lives and properties of the people if there is a popular government but the present government in Manipur has failed to live up to the people's expectation, he said and questioned if there is a popular government in Manipur or not at present.
Strongly condemning the drone bombing in Koutruk and Kadangband villages by Kuki militants in which a young woman was killed and her minor daughter got injured, Ibobi raised posers on PM Modi remaining silent when the situation of Manipur is most critical.
Further questioning if the worsening situation in Manipur is the real meaning of having a democratically elected government, O Ibobi said that INDIA bloc has no intention of toppling the government or imposition of President's Rule but the government's silent nature is not satisfactory.
He also reminded that Manipur is a part of India and attack on the state is also a threat to national security.
