Imphal, May 26 2026: The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) and Film Forum Manipur (FFM) have expressed deep grief over the sudden demise of Padmashri Dr Waikhom Gojen Meetei of Sekta Mayai Leikai, who passed away on May 23, 2026, following illness.

Dr Gojen was president of MEELAL and an executive committee member of STDCM .

The STDCM said his efforts to promote mother tongue and script, and his role in the movement for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list, will be remembered.

The committee extended condolences to the bereaved family.

The FFM also held a condolence meet at its Lamphel office today, presided over by vice chairman-I N Surjitkanta Singh.

Members observed a two-minute silence.

Dr Gojen served as vice chairman-II for two terms, treasurer for one term, and was an executive member for 2025-2028 .

A filmmaker and director, he produced several Manipuri films and worked to promote the State's language, script, and culture.

Both organisations said his death is an irreparable loss to Manipur's cultural and film spheres.
