Assam Rifles strengthens community outreach in Chandel, Tengnoupal

Chandel/Tengnoupal, July 22 2026: Continuing its effort to reinforce peace, mutual trust and community development in the border regions of Manipur, Assam Rifles organised comprehensive interaction programmes with students, local villagers and Civil Society Organisations in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.

According to a release issued by IGAR (South), the initiatives aimed at empowering youth, promoting socio-economic stability and fostering collaborative partnerships with local communities.

In Chandel district, Assam Rifles organised an interaction programme at Khengjang village on July 20, bringing together students of Stella Maris School and local villagers.

The programme featured addresses by students and local representatives, during which Assam Rifles personnel encouraged students to pursue education with dedication, maintain discipline and contribute towards positive social development.

The personnel also assured the community of continued humanitarian assistance and support.

The programme concluded with the declaration of academic results and a vote of thanks by the headmaster.

A total of 252 civilians, including 130 boys, 60 girls, 12 teaching faculty members and 50 local villagers, participated in the programme.

Meanwhile, in Tengnoupal district, Assam Rifles held a coordination meeting with representatives of various Civil Society Organisations at Moreh Town on July 22.The meeting provided a platform for open discussions on the prevailing security situation, maintenance of peace, resumption of local trade in Moreh and revival of cross-border trade between Moreh in India and Tamu in Myanmar.

Assam Rifles officials assured their support in maintaining a safe environment and facilitating socio-economic revival, while the civil society representatives expressed confidence in continued joint efforts towards regional stability.

The meeting was attended by four Assam Rifles personnel, including the Commandant, and 49 representatives of various Civil Society Organisations.

The engagements, according to the release, reaffirmed Assam Rifles' commitment to promoting harmony, socioeconomic development and lasting peace among the border communities of Manipur.
