Bird traps seized, dead birds recovered during anti-poaching drive

Imphal, September 20 2026: Three bird traps/nets were seized and two dead birds were recovered during an anti-poaching drive held at the open fields of Tharoijam under Imphal West district today.

The anti-poaching drive was carried out by members of Joint Co-ordination Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity (JCCWB) Manipur in coordination with the staff of Iroisemba Beat Office under the aegis of Imphal West Range Forest Officer Kiranjit Yumnam.

The drive was carried out upon receiving reliable information that birds are being poached illegally using traps and airguns.

The seized bird traps have been kept at Iroisemba Beat Office while the dead birds have been disposed of by the team.

Speaking on the sidelines, JCCWB convenor Romesh Ningthoujam urged all concerned to refrain from carrying out bird poaching activities and focus on preserving the wildlife and natural environment.

He also informed that the Range Officer has given assurance that the vulnerable bird poaching areas will be under strict vigil to check such illegal activities.
