Imphal, May 16 2025:
Following the approval given during the meeting of Governor-in-Council held Thursday after thorough discussion of requirements and posting requisites, engagement VDF personnel, as extended from time to time, has been extended for one more year.
An order in this regard has been issued by joint secretary (home) Dr M Veto, specifying that engagement of a total of 10,500 VDF personnel for the period of one year shall be effective from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.Notably, state government has been extending engagement of VDF personnel as per requirement from time to time after verification and postings.
The service extension order came hours after All Manipur VDF Employees' Welfare Association declared that the ongoing arms down strike by VDF personnel will persist until they receive a positive response from the government regarding their demands - which include service extension, a hike in monthly honorarium and regularisation of posts.
Announcing the body's stance during a press conference at Manipur Press Club earlier on Friday, Association president Sagolsem Sanjit Singh said that more than 10,000 VDF personnel across the state are currently serving with a meagre monthly honorarium of Rs 10,500 .
He said the Association is demanding minimum monthly honorarium of Rs 30,000, explaining that the current honorarium is insufficient to support families.
Other demands raised by the association include service extension and regularisation of posts.
According to Sanjit, the meeting of the Governor-in-Council held recently had approved service extension but there has been no official statement.
Another demand raised by the association is implementation of Section 18 of the Police Act, 1861 in accordance with the VDF recruitment rules, he said adding that VDF personnel are ready to be deployed anywhere in the country if the Police Act is implemented as per the rules.
Sanjit Singh warned that ongoing peaceful agitation could intensify in case the association's demands are not fulfilled.
