Interaction programme on "Climate Change Reporting in Manipur" held

Imphal, July 15 2025: A 1-day joint interaction programme for the 6th Media Fellowship Programme (2025-26) on "Climate Change Reporting in Manipur" was held today at the conference hall of Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur in Porompat.

The programme organised by Media Resource Centre, Manipur in collaboration with State Climate Change Cell, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Manipur, aimed to build the capacity of the media fellow recipients and intending applicants for fellowship on "Climate Change Reporting", especially journalists who are primarily working on different issues in the hill districts.

The programme was graced by Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Director, Dr T Brajakumar Singh; Development Officer, Dr N Sanamacha; and Joint Directors of the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change.

Experts of Media Resource Centre namely senior journalist Irengbam Arun, environmentalist Salam Rajesh, senior journalist Pradip Phanjoubam and Khogendra Khomdram, editor of The Sangai Express (Manipuri edition) were also present at the programme.

The event began with a welcome address by Sobhapati Samom, Coordinator, Media Resource Centre, followed by presentations from the recipients of the 6th State Level Media Fellowship Programme.

Presentations by representations of Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association, Senapati District Journalists, Tamenglong District Journalists, Churachandpur District Journalists, AIR Imphal and Lai Kaidong U Teaml; Question and Answer sessions, and reflections from experts of Media Resource Centre were the other highlights of the event.

The interaction programme provided an opportunity to learn and share good practices on climate change issues such as climate science, effective political advocacy, community-based adaptation as well as roles of media in raising public awareness on climate communication and public access to information.
