Imphal, July 13 2024:
Apart from alleging that the present government is dividing every institution in the state on community line, Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has said that the nature of the Naga-Kuki clash of 1993 and the present conflict have huge difference but the BJP government is comparing the two conflicts to cover up their mistakes.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mentioned Naga-Kuki clash of 1993 and compared that clash with the present conflict in his speech in the Parliament and the subsequent allegation by NPF leader Awangbow Newmai that the then Congress government did nothing to resolve the Naga-Kuki clash of 1993, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam told some media persons that there was no transfer or posting of any government institution on community line during the Naga-Kuki clash of 1993 .
The then Naga and Congress leader and presently member of the Congress Working Committee Gaikhangam visited Kangpokpi to bring an end to the Naga-Kuki clash and his efforts must not be forgotten.
Asking if any Meetei or Kuki minister of the present government could initiate the bold step and responsibility that Gaikhangam took during the Naga-Kuki clash of 1993, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said that Kuki MLAs not only hesitate to talk with Meetei MLAs but did not even came for attending assembly session.
To fool the public, th BJP government is concealing factual events and telling lies, he said and asked if any Kuki minister could venture into Meetei dominated area or any Meetei minister visit Kuki dominated area at present.
He further asked as to how could leaders of BJP and its allied political parties compare the nature of conflict that took place in 1993 with the the present one.
According to Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, there was a strong and powerful state government in 1993 but the present government is dividing every government institution on community line as no Kuki employee could be transferred to Meetei inhabited area or vice-versa.
In 1993, state police department did not communalise the conflict and any employee of th department could move or transfer to any area of the state.
During the time, people could move freely anywhere despite anticipating problem, he added.
The conflict of 1993 started among armed groups but the present conflict is not among armed groups, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam pointed out, while adding that even the ministers could not move from one place to another in the present conflict.
During the conflict of 1993, Naga or Kuki civilians could move freely and the government is concealing this fact.
By comparing the present conflict with that of 1993, the government is trying to cover up their failure, Bimol alleged.
Reacting sharply to BJP's allegation that Congress party is politicising the present issue, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said that BJP continues to blame Congress party to conceal their mistakes and it is BJP which is politicizing the issue in reality.
One needs to question the present government if any government-official was posted on community line during the conflict of 1993, he said.
When asked about his view on some BJP leaders' allegation that NRC and other issues were not raised in the Parliament, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam replied that BJP is the ruling party both in the state and at the Centre and they should rather work towards resolving the issue instead of blaming the Congress party.
The core issue is the failure of th state government and rendering it dysfunctional, he added.
