SFs destroy poppy plantations in Noney, Ccpur districts

A joint team of Manipur police led by Noney additional SP Sangboi Gangte, Nungba police station officer in-charge Nilamani Singh, Nungba Forest range officer Oinam Pamheiba, 39 Assam Rifles Nungba Outpost commander Shimray and Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) president Daichui destroyed at least 4 hectares of poppy plantations at T Khongmol Kuki village under Nungba sub-division in Noney district on Monday.
According to OC Nilamani Singh, 'We have totally destroyed at least 4 hectares of poppy plantations today at T Khongmol, Longpi Circle, under Nungba police station in collaboration with different government and non-governmental agencies including RNSOM.
We have initiated legal action against the chairman of T Khongmol village and the cultivators who were both out of station at the time operation.
Both of them will be dealt with according to the law of the land" .
"It is indeed surprising to see such massive plantation despite several requests, appeals and warnings from the government.
Search and survey drive of poppy plantations will continue and will be destroyed all if found in the coming days," the OC affirmed.
RNSOM president Daichui said that while the chief minister of Manipur had declared war on drugs and appealed to make the state drug-free, it is very surprising and unexpected to see such huge plantations going on in Nungba Sub-Division.
Daichui said, "Rongmei never practice such poppy or any kind of drugs related plantations.
We had declared poppy-free in all Rongmei territories last year 2022 supporting the government's initiatives.
We will continue to work with government agencies to completely eradicate this menace in the best interest of the people.
We will continue to work together with the government to make Tamenglong and Noney poppy-free districts" .
"The organisation will never hesitate to protect and safeguard the future generations and always help the government in ending illegal drug business," he added.
The president also declared that continuous surveys will be conducted in both the two districts and cautioned anybody involved to surrender/quit before they are caught and taken legal action.
As per the villagers, chair man of T Khongmol lives in Churachandpur while the poppy cultivators reside in T Khongmol.
CHURACHANDPUR: A combined team of Churachandpur district police, NAB and 1st IRB on Monday destroyed poppy cultivations spread around 34 acres of land in Songpijang area of Churachandpur district.
The combined team also destroyed 12 huts used by the poppy farmers in the plantation area.
The poppy plantations were found carried out around 17-18 km from the village in Leimatak area which is under Henglep police station.
The entire village was found.to be abandoned.
An FIR has been registered for further investigation.
