Imphal, April 08 2026:
Residents of Akampat Relief Camp, joined by locals from Singjamei and Khongman areas, staged a sit-in protest today, demanding justice for the brutal killing of 8-year-old Oinam Chanuthoi Chanu.
The protest, organised by the Family Committee, Akampat Relief Camp, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the State Government's perceived inaction.
Akampat Relief Camp, Oinam Chanuthoi went missing on April 5, 2026, and her body was discovered early the next morning, April 6, under the Singjamei Bridge.
While the Irilbung Police managed to arrest a suspect, Laishram Langamba, the committee and family members stated that no proper assurance of punishment has been given by the State Government so far.
The protest, held at the Ideal Girls College, Akampat, saw participation from internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Moreh and Churachandpur, as well as local elders.
Protesters chanted slogans demanding capital punishment for the killer and vowed not to accept the body until their demands are met.
The committee has resolved to continue their agitation until justice is served.
