Imphal, September 03 2026:
Manipur Progressive Pig Farmers Association has urged butchers to sell pork at reasonable rates and farmers to maintain biosecurity to ensure healthy meat for consumers.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club on Thursday, its publicity secretary Laishram Bishorjit said farmers who depend on piggery for livelihood have faced huge losses due to diseases and other factors.
He said that with pig fanning resuming gradually, unorganised selling, lack of rate maintenance and irregular slaughtering have led to price variations and risk of spread of African Swine Fever.
He appealed to farmers to maintain biosecurity and produce healthy pigs and to butchers to sell healthy meat.
