Bus operators directed to waive off fare for PWDs

Imphal, September 01 2025: The Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities has notified all public and private bus operators functioning within Manipur to comply with the directives of providing 100% concession in bus fare to persons with disabilities and 50% concession to one companion, as earlier notified by the State Transport Department on June 10.According to a public notice issued by W Birahari Singh, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Manipur, any authority, operator or employee found to be in violation or defiance of these directives will invite legal proceedings and stringent action under the relevant provisions of the Rights with Disabilities Act, 2016 and other applicable laws.

The public notice comes in response to the Office receiving several complaints that most of the private bus operators are not complying with the said notification, thereby depriving PwDs of their lawful rights.
