Police have re-arrested the KCP leader Thokchom Nando alias Ibungo, who is in jail in connection with the case of kidnapping and subsequent murder of Luningla Elizabeth, in a follow action to the case of missing a professor of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
Official source said that Thokchom Nando, the leader of a faction of the KCP who is an under-trial prisoner in the case related with the abduction and subsequent murder of the then GAD minister Francis Ngakjokpa in November 2003, was re-arrested from the Shajiwa jail where he is currently lodging yesterday.
He was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal east taken to police custody for 25 days.
Police re-arrested Nando based on the disclosure made by one woman activist of the group arrested by the Imphal west police commandos on June 25 last from the gate of the missing doctor of RIMS, Laishram Joychand of Khagempali Irom Leikai under Singjamei police station of Imphal west.
Source said that Imphal west police commandos arrested Oinam Shorojini (45) wife of O Ranjit of Oinam Swambung from the gate of the doctor when she allegedly came out with extorted money amounting to Rs 2 lakh from the doctor on June 25.They recovered Rs 2 lakh and three live rounds of 9 mm for her possession.
The source alleged that she went to the house of the doctor to collect the money as per instruction of Nando.
Mention may also be made that regarding the missing of Doctor Joychand, a professor of radiotherapy of RIMS, doctors and staff of the RIMS had staged a sit-in protest at the institute complex on Tuesday last.
Today also residents of the Khagempali Irom Leikai also staged a sit-in protest decrying threat posed on the doctor and withdraw the same and allow the doctor to serve the people as doctor.
Protestors said that the doctor left home and hide himself unable to bear with the repeated threat on him by the KCP (Tabungba) faction.
