Imphal, May 29 2025:
Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State has asserted that although the people desire a popular government, they no longer wish for one led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"While the people are anticipating a popular government, they have observed the selfish actions of BJP MLAs and no longer believe the party would be able to maintain peace in Manipur," stated newly-appointed CPI Manipur state secretary Athokpam Nabachandra during a press meet held at Irawat Bhavan, BT Road here on Thursday.

Recounting that the previous popular government came under the President's Rule, all due to the volition of BJP, he pointed out that the people could clearly see the BJP MLAs are self-serving and no longer trust any government led by the party would be good and peaceful for the state.
He then urged the leaders to understand the sentiments of the people and Urged authorities concerned to order conduct of fresh election to enable the people choose government of their choice.
Nabachandra continued that CPI has been contributing its mite in bringing solution to the unrest situation ever since the conflict broke out on May 4 last year, just as it has done countless times in the past.
He also expressed resentment over indifferent attitude of PM Modi in resolving the Manipur crisis regardless of vowing to uproot all terrorists and overlooking the threat posed to the people of Manipur by narco-terrorists.
Regarding the Gwaltabi incident, Nabachandra said it is a challenge to the people of Manipur and the Governor should take responsibility, and apologise for the same.
Delaying the matter would further incite public anger and could lead to the people demanding his "expulsion" from Manipur, he remarked, and demanded that the Governor calm the emotions of the people at the earliest.
Commenting on BJP Manipur Pradesh's condemnation of the Gwaltabi incident, he questioned why the state unit is unable to seek an explanation from the Centre in this regard.
Instead of waiting for a nod from the central high command, it should prevail upon the Centre to restore peace in Manipur, he stated, while expressing firm belief that BJP would uphold this trust.
