Imphal, March 29 2026:
Local residents in Imphal are raising desperate appeals to the Government to urgently repair and upgrade the city's failing drainage system, which turns every rainy season into a nightmare of flooding and hardship.
Even brief heavy rains overwhelm the inadequate drains, leading to massive water accumulation in streets and neighborhoods, locals say.
Blockages from garbage and waste improperly dumped into the system force dirty water to overflow onto roads and into homes, resulting in dangerous waterlogging.
This stagnant, contaminated water breeds diseases and creates huge hardships, especially for children and the elderly who face mobility issues and health risks.
Residents point to the Government's failure to clean drains on time and public misuse as the root causes.
They also called for immediate action: regular desilting, repairs, and a comprehensive modernization to put an end to the seasonal flooding nightmare.
