Thoubal, July 28 2025:
The Green Revolution Society (GRS) Manipur, in observance of World Environment Day, organised a tree plantation drive on Sunday at the historic Anglo-Manipur War Memorial Complex located at Thoubal Athokpam Koubilya Makhong.
The drive, part of GRS Manipur's continuous environmental campaign, will span two days and aims to combat the deteriorating ecological condition of the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surjakumar lauded the initiative and noted that GRS Manipur has been actively conducting such drives for over 12 years.
He stated that the society's efforts are instrumental in promoting environmental awareness and preserving heritage sites.
The MLA further highlighted the significance of the Anglo-Manipur War Memorial Complex, describing the site as one of the most important battlefields in Manipur's history, where numerous Manipuri soldiers laid down their lives fighting against the British forces led by Captain Grant.
He urged the people to actively participate in the safeguarding and development of such historical sites.
He continued that GRS Manipur has consistently engaged in plantation activities across several sacred and historical sites, thereby contributing meaningfully to the environment and heritage conservation.
