Imphal, May 27 2026:
The 37th Students' Emancipation Day will be observed on May 28 under the aegis of the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, Moirang.
According to AMSU, the observance will begin with the offering of floral tributes to the memorial stone located at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School, followed by a public meeting to be held at Moirang Pangsang Community Hall.
The day is observed annually in remembrance of the courage and sacrifices of students who fought for students' rights and resorted to democratic agitation in 1973 and 1979, demanding improvement of infrastructure and educational facilities in institutions located in Moirang.
During the course of the movement, three students - Haobijam Ibohal, Urikhinbam Khelen and Kumam Sarat - lost their lives while protesting for the betterment of the student community in Manipur.
AMSU has appealed to students and the people of the State to participate in the commemorative programme and extend support in making the event a success.
