AFESWA celebrates 10th Raising Day

The Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Welfare (AFESWA), Thoubal celebrated its 10th Raising Day at Thoubal Wangmata Sai Mandir on Sunday.
The event was attended by Retd Lt General Konsam Himalaya, AFESWA president Retd Wing Commander AK Debendro Singh, Retd Col Ch Inaobi, Retd Col IS Chanam and Retd Col P Gopendra as presidium members.
In his address, Retd Lt General Konsam Himalaya emphasized that the most pressing needs of ex-servicemen are medical care and canteen facilities.
He noted that the Rajya Sainik Board, Manipur, has been making continuous efforts for the welfare of retired personnel.
He further acknowledged the contribution of the 27th Mountain Division, which has been extending facilities such as Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) and canteen services at Koirengei.
He also mentioned that various benefits are also coming up for the veterans above 70 years at the Babina Hospital and other institutions.
Significantly, Lt General Himalaya announced that from October/November this year, work will commence for the construction of a permanent ECHS building at Koirengei with an estimated budget of Rs 20 crore.
The project will also include a shopping complex for ex-servicemen, adjacent to the new ECHS building.
The celebration concluded with the association honouring its members by presenting simple gifts as a token of appreciation.
