Government tackles data gap with 'Administrative Data Linkage' workshop

Imphal, March 25 2026: The Department of Economics & Statistics, Government of Manipur, organised an "Internal Consultative Workshop on Using Administrative Data for Governance" today at the Directorate's Auditorium in Lamphelpat.

The workshop aimed to address challenges related to administrative data linkages and implementation among various line departments of the State Government.

The inaugural session was attended by dignitaries, including Joseph Pauline Kamson, Secretary (Economics & Statistics), Manipur; Peijonna Kamei, Director of Economics & Statistics, Manipur; and L Ibo Singh, Joint Director, Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Manipur.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamson emphasized the growing demand for data and noted that the full value of existing administrative datasets in sectors like health, education, and agriculture remains under-realized due to departmental silos and a lack of structured data linkage frameworks.

The workshop's objective, as explained by the Director of Economics & Statistics, was to gather feedback and inputs from the line departments to establish a shared understanding of data linkage themes and tackle associated institutional and technical challenges.

This feedback will be shared with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, to prepare for a national-level summit in April 2026, the outcomes of which will feed into the National Conference of Chief Secretaries in December 2026.The technical session featured presentations on "Administrative Data Linkage" by resource persons, including Ahongsangbam Bisorjit Singh, Deputy Director, DES, Manipur; Himanchali Rana, Deputy Director, MoSPI, GoI; Subham Arora, KPMG; Sravan Pallapothu, Programme Manager, CEGIS; and Rakshit Ponnathpur, Programme Manager, CEGIS.

Officers from various departments attended the event and provided valuable suggestions for bridging the data gap.
