Senapati, July 24 2025:
Senapati District Drivers' Welfare Union and Surface Transport Hill Areas Drivers' Welfare Union Manipur in collaboration with personnel of Mao police station organised highway clearance by cutting tall grasses on every turning along the highway from Mao to Senapati district headquarters, on Thursday.
The drivers' bodies aim to take up such initiatives in order to prevent vehicle accidents along the blind curves blocked by tall grasses.
Speaking to the media, one of the drivers informed that the initiative is an annual event aimed at clearing the roads, a task that should ideally be carried out by the Public Works Department.
However, due to the absence of maintenance workers along the highway, the District Drivers' Welfare Union, in collaboration with Mao police, has taken up the responsibility in order to prevent accidents, especially along blind curves.
Around 50 volunteers including the Mao police personnel participated in clearing the highway.
