Imphal, May 24 2025:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) general secretary Pratap Leishangthem has cautioned of continuing intense protests until the government issues an apology to the people of Manipur in connection with the Gwaltabi incident.
He made the statement during a human chain protest staged from Kwakeithel Ningthemkol till Changangei Uchekon organised by AMOBA, PLMPAM, COHR and MSF under AMUCO on the theme of "Manipur Mutpa Yaroi (Manipur cannot be annihilated)", on Saturday.
Strongly condemning the Gwaltabi incident, Pratap said that there is a need to understand who is truly trying to disintegrate Manipur.
The Governor, chief secretary and security advisor need to understand the sentiment of the people when it comes to the unity and identity of Manipur, he stated, adding that they should resign from their posts and sincerely apologise to the people, failing which protests could intensified.
MSF president Hijam Roshan said that the Gwaltabi incident should not be taken lightly, adding that the incident clearly indicates the attempts to make Manipur disappear.
He continued that the student community of the state would never tolerate such acts, while urging against any repeat of similar incidents in the future.
The human chain protest was participated by school students, Meira Paibi members and the general public from Kwakeithel Ningthemkol till Changangei Uchekkon.
During the protests, slogans such as "Manipur cannot be annihilated", "Condemn India's Policy to Obliterate Manipur", "Obliterate Colonial Law-AFSPA", and "Self Determination is our birth right" were raised.
