Chandel, July 23 2026:
In the lead-up to the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Assam Rifles organised a patriotic awareness programme at Sajik Tampak in Chandel district on Thursday to commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1999 Kargil War.
Assam Rifles in a statement said that the programme, organised as a precursor to the national observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, aimed to educate young students about the historic victory and the supreme sacrifices made by the armed forces during Operation Vijay.
Around 30 students and three teachers from Government High School, Sajik Tampak, along with security personnel, participated in the programme.
The event began with a Flag March, during which students, teachers and troops carried the National Tricolour through the local area, promoting patriotism and national pride among the residents.
An informational presentation on the historical context, key battles and strategic significance of the high-altitude conflict was subsequently conducted.
A motivational documentary highlighting the courage, valour and determination of the armed forces during the Kargil War was also screened.
The session featured accounts of military bravery and encouraged students to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the fallen heroes as the nation prepares to observe Kargil Vijay Diwas.
The programme concluded with the collective rendition of the National Anthem.
School staff and members of the local community appreciated the Assam Rifles initiative, stating that such programmes help connect the younger generation with the nation's military history and inspire them with the values of courage, sacrifice and patriotism.
