Legal awareness programme held

The Royal Academy of Law, Oinam, in collaboration with Legal Aid Clinic, Patsoi, Deaf & Mute School, Takyel, and the Social Welfare Department.
Manipur, organised a 1-day legal awareness programme on the "Rights ofPersons with Disabilities" at the Deaf & Mute School, Takyel today.
The programme, held with support from PM USHA, was attended by Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) Chairperson Keisham Pradipkumar as chief guest, while Headmistress of Deaf & Mute School N Sunitibala presided over the function.
Principal of Royal Academy of Law Oinam Eliza Maisnam and Headmistress of Ideal Blind School, Takyel, Mangibala Huirem were present as special guests.
Extension Officer of Social Welfare Department L BoBo, psychologist Taniya Akoijam, and CRCSRE Imphal Director Naosekpam Khoibi participated as resource persons.
Speaking at the event, Keisham Pradipkumar said there are many children in the State who are neglected by society, and such discrimination is.
greater for children with disabilities.
He stressed that to ensure their rights are protected, proper education must be provided to them.
Creating awareness to build their confidence is essential, and the Government must take steps to uplift deprived children, he added.
Pradipkumar further said that the State Government should notify a comprehensive Child Rights framework and intensify initiatives to bring children with disabilities on par with other children in education, protection, and overall development.
Pointing out that children with disabilities often cannot express violence or abuse they face, he called for increasing the number of special educators and empowering them, as they can help children communicate their grievances through alternative means.
