Signs of economic recovery amidst challenges: CM Biren

Amidst myriad challenges plaguing the state since the unrest broke on May 3, 2023, chief minister N Biren Singh, in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighted the state's achievements and efforts towards economic recovery and infrastructure development.
The CM shared the government's progress across various sectors, emphasising that positive developments are already visible as the state emerges from a difficult period.
In his post on X, the CM wrote that the state's own resources, including State GST, have shown an 18 per cent growth between May and September 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.This growth reflects the government's concerted efforts towards economic stabilisation and recovery following the unrest.
In addition to economic recovery, the CM pointed to progress of long-delayed infrastructure projects.
Several land-related issues that previously stalled the National Highway and Railway projects have now been resolved.
In the past year, 50 per cent of pending land required for National Highway projects has been made available, while solutions have been found for land acquisition issues related to Railway projects.
"The state has also initiated major infrastructure projects aimed at addressing pressing needs.
The Lamphelpat Waterbody Rejuvenation Project, with an outlay of Rs 650 crore, is currently under implementation.
This project will help prevent flooding in greater Imphal area while providing an open space for residents and a supplementary drinking water source," the CM wrote.
Another crucial project under implementation is the Imphal Sewerage Project Phase II, which has an outlay of Rs 1,100 crore, aimed at providing much-needed sewerage services to Imphal Municipal area, improving sanitation and public health infrastructure.
CM Biren also highlighted several upcoming projects, such as the Imphal Ring Road project with a budget of Rs 1,660 crore and the Rigid Pavement Roads project, which has ah outlay of Rs 3,300 crore.
Both projects are in the final preparatory stages, with work expected to begin soon.
In the education sector, the government has launched the 'College Fagathansi Mission' with an initial outlay of Rs 60 crore.
"The mission is aimed at improving the quality of government colleges across the state, building on the success of the 'School Fagathansi Mission' initiated in 2019, which focused on enhancing the quality of government schools," Biren elaborated.
Progress in environmental sustainability was also underscored by the CM, who mentioned the transformation of Waithou-Phumnom Pat under the National Aquatic Ecosystem Plan by the ministry of environment, forest & climate change.
The project has seen plantation of 1.14 lakh trees, construction of 15 check dams, and establishment of three ponds with silt traps.
Other features include bio-compost and vermin-compost pits, farmer training initiatives, and the opening of a Village Knowledge Centre, Biren added.
