Village leaders condemn killing of civilian, demand removal of SoO camp

Imphal, May 15 2026:
Village chairmen and leaders of various civil society organisations ofNoney and Tamenglong districts have strongly condemned the killing of a civilian and injury to two others in an alleged militant attack at Zoujangtek on May 13 .
In a joint statement, the leaders denounced the killing of Wilson Thanga (56), son of D Waikan of Dollang village, and the injuring of Olive Jaling (34) and Aroma Thanga (33), both residents of Dollang village.
Describing the incident as an inhuman act, they stated that such crimes would never be tolerated in the area and asserted that those responsible should be brought to justice at the earliest.
In connection with the incident, the organisations placed several demands before the authorities.
They urged the Government to remove the Suspension of Operations (SoO) camp of KNF (Jougarn) from Kungpinaosen in the Laikha-Laimaton area along the Old Cachar Road at Tongjeimarin, stating that militants have been creating intolerable problems in the area for many years.
They also demanded the deployment of an IRB camp at Jadonang Market Complex (Kaiphundai) in Laimaton, Tongjeimarin, regular operation and maintenance of Road Opening Patrols (ROP) to ensure public safety, ex-gratia payment to the next of kin of the deceased, and financial assistance for the medical treatment of the injured persons.
