Imphal, September 12 2026: The proposed agitation by caretakers under All Manipur Airtel Workers Union (AMAWU) demanding salary hike has been deferred following an agreement with companies.

Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club today, AITUC Manipur general secretary Laishram Sotinkumar said demands for hike in salary of caretakers under AMAWU were raised to Bharti Airtel Ltd and Indus Tower Ltd since February 2, 2025 .

As there was no response, agitation was launched from July 15 this year.

After assurance from companies, the stir was suspended on August 3 with a warning to launch an intense stir including stopping functioning of Airtel mobile towers from September 16 if no concrete response came by September 15, he said.

Sotinkumar said as companies assured to implement the demands, the stir has been deferred by three months.
