Imphal, May 10 2025:
Amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, students from Manipur studying in border states have sought refuge in the national capital, fearing potential fallout from the ongoing situation.
Around 50 students, who had been studying in Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and Chandigarh, have reached Delhi and are currently sheltering under the initiative of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) .
Male students are being accommodated at the RPI (A) office in Safdarjung, while female students have been placed in nearby paying guest lodgings.
Additional rooms have been reserved for more students expected to arrive in the coming days.
RPI (A) Manipur State Delhi Youth Wing president Borish, in a video statement, said that the effort was led by RPI (A) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam, who initiated a helpline to assist affected students.
Support measures are ongoing for students still en route to Delhi.
Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India (AAI), in coordination with aviation authorities, has suspended civil flight operations at 32 airports across northern and western India from May 9 to May 14, citing operational reasons.
The move was announced through a series of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs).
Mention may be made that India and Pakistan agreed for a full ceasefire following intervention by the USA.
However, hours after the announcement of the ceasefire, instances of continued shelling are reported from Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir.
