Imphal, September 04 2012:
The un-interrupted increase in the number of illegal migrants in the state is another form of waging war against the indigenous people of Manipur, President of Manipur People's Party (MPP) S Umananda has exclaimed.
Speaking to media persons, S Umananda observed that though the initiative taken up by Home Department to check influx of illegal migrants is praiseworthy, the authority concerned, however, needs to come up with a specific long term strategy to solve the problem.
Umananda explained that there are two types of migrants coming to Manipur.
The first one are those who come from other countries and the other migrants are those coming from different parts of the country.
The migrants coming from other countries can be identified and sent back to their respective countries.
But the migrants coming from within the country are the ones who create problem in the state.
He pointed out that in big states like UP there will be no problem of illegal migrants.
Whether it's in terms of thousands or lakhs, all migrant workers are always welcome in UP.
However, in small states like Manipur, it will not be possible to hold even a few lakhs illegal migrants.
By the time the number of illegal migrants increases manifold, there will be numerous problems of serious implications, socially, economically, politically and culturally.
Ultimately, it will lead to an identity crisis.
So, it will be proper for all of us to remember the saying that Bengal is for Bengalis, Manipur for Manipuris and Assam for Assamese, he added saying that with the increase in the number of illegal migrants, all the administrative affairs of the state will fall into the hands of the outsiders completely.
