Imphal, September 02 2024:
Kuki militants torched five residential houses, one granary and 13 vehicles including four belonging to the PHE Department after their attack at Koutruk village on Supday as villagers particularly women, children and elderly have relocated to safer places.
Meanwhile, additional forces deployed at Koutruk after Sunday's attack have taken up measures to thwart any attempt to attack the fringe village.
The fierce attack by Kuki militants at Koutruk village from 2 pm Sunday left a young woman named Ngangbam Surbala dead and 11 others including her minor daughter and two policemen injured.
After Kuki militants halted attacking the village since June 11, 2024, Koutruk villagers returned to their respective homes recently but the sudden and unsuspecting attack on Sunday afternoon using drones to drop explosives forced the villagers to flee and seek shelter at safer locations.
Koutruk villagers are now taking shelter at two relief camps set up at Phumlou Keiroi primary school and Phumlou Keiroi community hall.
A total of 162 villagers including 46 children below 18 years and 19 elderly people are taking shelter in the two relief camps managed by Phumlou Keiroi Youth Development Club.
On the other hand, Kuki militants torched five residential houses, one granary and 13 vehicles during their brief occupation of the village on Sunday evening with four of the damaged vehicles belonging to state PHE department.
An official of PHED informed the media that all four vehicles of the department utilised for hand-pump drilling in the village were set on fire by Kuki militants.
Drilling machine vehicle, tanker and supporting and compressor vehicles were among the torched, the official added.
Meanwhile, additional security forces deployed at Koutruk after the attack by Kuki militants using drones have started taking up measures to prevent any further attack.
