Free LPG connection

A free gas connection programme was held at the community hall of Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme today.
Speaking at the event, CAF & PD Minister, Karam Shyam said that although there are 2.44 lakh eligible people for the Ujjwala Yojana scheme according to the Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011, in the State, only 77,000 beneficiaries were given free connection out of 8 7,000 applicants by the Govt and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
Lack of knowledge about the scheme might be the reason why many have not yet applied for the scheme, he said and appealed all the representatives to keep politics aside and make an attempt to provide the benefits to all the benefactrices.
He stated that Ujjwala Yojana was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, considering the health hazard caused by the smoke produced by burning woods while cooking.
Altogether 275 applicants were given free connection today and 225 more will be connected in a few days� time, he said and further spoke about the plan to connect 2000 more beneficiaries after sometime.
Karam Shyam lauded M/S Phoubakchao Indane Gramin Vitrak for taking a vital role to make the programme a success and also credited the success of the programme to the youth and womenfolk of Langthabal AC.
The event was attended by B Brajamohon Sharma, vice president Lok Janshakti Party, Langthabal AC and Thounaojam Jiten, owner of M/S Phoubakchao Indane Gramin Vitrak.
