Serow fawn rescued, handed over to Manipur Zoological Garden

Tamenglong, November 28 2025: A serow fawn (sabeng in Manipuri, scientific name Capricomis rubidus) has been rescued and handed over to the authorities of Manipur Zoological Garden today.

Keijuilung Pame, s/o Arum Pame of Impa village, Tousem sub-division, Tamenglong rescued the fawn on November 26 .

He handed it over to A Promeshwor Singh, RFO, Tousem on November 27.Again, the fawn was handed over to Dr L Saratchandra Singh, Veterinary Officer, Manipur Zoological Garden by Tamenglong Forest Division led by Kharibam Hitler Singh, DFO, Tamenglong and staff of Tousem Range around 9:30 am today.

The serow fawn is included in Schedule I of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and classified as "vulnerable" by the IUCN .
