Imphal, September 22 2024:
Stating that at a time when people of the state are panicking and confused over genuineness of a viral letter addressed to the Manipur DGP by secretary to chief minister N Geoffrey over incursion of approximately 900 highly trained Kuki militants into Manipur from Myanmar, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) said confirmation about the incursion by security advisor Kuldiep Singh on September 20 underscores inefficiency of security forces deployed in the state.
In a release, COCOMI media coordinator Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman claimed that if the 60,000-plus central forces and 35,000 state forces present in the state had done their duty in sincere manner then there would have been no possibility of such illegal influx of Kuki terrorists from Myanmar into the state, amidst the turmoil.
The way in which these Kuki terrorists have easily entered the state proves central forces are in hand-in-gloves with them.
Central forces, since May 3, 2023 when the ongoing conflict stirred up in the state and till now, have largely remained on the sidelines and have allowed numerous influx of Kuki terrorists into state who then have carried out genocide attacks on Meeteis, it alleged.
COCOMI said it takes central government's inaction, despite presence of large number of SFs and admission by security advisor Kuldiep Singh of government's knowledge about incursion by around 900 Kuki militants into the state, as a testimony to destroy Manipur's integrity.
Stating that it had also cautioned the government of numerous Kuki terrorists foraying into Jiribam to carry out attacks, but the security advisor and Manipur DGP remain nonchalant, the media coordinator lamented that failure to take timely action has resulted in relentless violence by the Kuki terrorists in Jiribam.
COCOMI further emphasised that if the security forces carry out timely arrest and take appropriate action against the said 900 Kuki terrorists then the trust deficit the public has for central security forces can be overcome.
The Committee also posed whether the meeting of Strategic Operation Group (SOG) to be chaired by the security advisor, which has been called to oversee the security situation in the state after the incursion by Kuki terrorists become public knowledge, will even result in any protection for the people and should it even be trusted.
Asserting that if the central government really sees people of Manipur as Indian citizens then it must stop the proxy war, the Committee further demanded that both the centre and the state government should resolve the ongoing conflict at the earliest.
