DC Bishnupur inaugurates market shed for IDPs

Bishnupur, January 22 2026:
Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, on Thursday inaugurated a market shed at the Kwakta Sericulture Pre-Fabricated House Relief Camp, Kwakta, as part of ongoing efforts to empower Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through sustainable livelihood initiatives.
The market shed, comprising 18 stalls at present, has been set up under the initiative to enhance livelihood opportunities for IDPs.
The programme was organised by the District Administration, Bishnupur, in coordination with the Churachandpur Meitei United Committee.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the Deputy Commissioner expressed happiness over the initiative, stating that it would help generate income for IDPs while providing them with a dedicated space to improve their livelihoods.
She called upon all stakeholders to extend their support and ensure the success of such meaningful initiatives.
Pooja further appealed to the IDPs to make full use of the opportunities provided by the government under various developmental schemes.
She particularly encouraged youths between the ages of 18 and 30 to come forward and enrol in hospitality training programmes to be conducted within the state, stating that these programmes would help enhance their skills and provide a platform to access better employment opportunities.
The inaugural programme was also attended by ADM Bishnupur, Toijam Opendro, along with members of the Churachandpur Meitei United Committee.
