NPF reaffirms support to Biren-led Govt

Imphal, November 18 2024: Maintaining that his party has full confidence in the leadership of chief minister N Biren Singh and the BJP-led government in the state, Awangbow Newmai, president of the Naga People's Front (NPF) Manipur, declared that his party will continue to support the BJP government during these challenging times.

The statement of the NPF state president came a day after National People's Party (NPP) withdrew its support to the BJP-headed coalition government in the state.

The Naga People's Front is a key ally of the BJP-led government.

Speaking to the media at NPF Manipur office at Lamphelpat on Monday, Awangbou, who is also water resource and relief and disaster management minister, expressed deep sorrow over the abduction and brutal murder of six individuals, three women and three children, by armed militants.

He described the act as "unfortunate" and emphasised that such actions are inhumane.

Strongly condemning all acts of violence and calling for suitable legal action against the culprits, Awangbou also clarified that the government made efforts to rescue the abducted individuals.

Though it was unfortunate that the authorities were unable to save them in time, the government's attempts were genuine and at their best under the circumstances, he reasoned.

Awangbow further stated that all issues should be addressed through peaceful means at the negotiating table.

The ongoing crisis in Manipur can only be resolved through dialogue, as there is no other viable solution.

He added that restoring peace in the state is not only the responsibility of the government, but the public must also play their part.

"Every community needs to adopt a broad-minded approach and control their emotions, as blaming other communities will not lead to a resolution.

It is essential to pave the way for leaders from all communities to come together and collaboratively work towards resolving the crisis, he stressed.

Awangbou also expressed regret over the destruction of houses and properties of MLAs and ministers, stating that such actions are unfortunate.

He advised the public not to take the law in their own hands.

The NPF has five legislators in the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Among them, two are cabinet ministers: Awangbou, who represents Tamei constituency in Tamenglong district, and Khashim Vashum of Chingai assembly constituency holding the portfolios of Transport, Veterinary, and Animal Husbandry.

The remaining three NPF legislators are L Dikho (Mao), Ram Muivah (Ukhrul), and Leishiyo Keis-hing (Phungyar) .
