Training on Food Processing for IDPs begins at CFT Lamphel

Imphal, March 16 2026:
With the aim of helping internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Watha Lambi and Laisoi Khul in Bishnupur district develop sustainable livelihood opportunities, a three-day hands-on training programme on food processing of fruits, vegetables and spices commenced today at the College of Food Technology, Lamphelpat.
The training programme is being organised by the Directorate of Research, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, and funded by the ICAR-Directorate of Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora.

Speaking in connection with the training programme, Deputy Director of Research Department, T Shantibala stated that a total of 25 trainees are participating in the training, which will include both theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations.
She said the programme aims to equip the participants with skills in preparing various value-added food products.
She said that during the three-day training, faculty members of the College of Food Technology will impart practical knowledge on preparing fruit pickles, candies, juices, spices and various bakery products.
The trainees will also be provided guidance on proper packaging of finished products to attract customers, marketing strategies, and procedures for obtaining Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) certification.
Shantibala further informed that on the concluding day of the training on March 18, essential machinery required for food processing - including grinders, slicers, washers, ovens and peeling machines will be distributed free of cost on a community basis.
In addition, raw materials needed to produce their first batch of products after completion of the training will also be supplied free of cost.
She added that the training programme has been organised under the initiative of CAU Imphal, Vice-Chancellor Dr Anupam Misra and under the guidance of LM Garnayak, Director of Research, CAU Imphal.
Shantibala expressed hope that the training programme would significantly help the IDPs in generating income and establishing a sustainable means of livelihood.
