World Plastic Surgery Day observed

Imphal, July 15 2025: Joining the rest of the world, the Department of Plastic Surgery, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, celebrated WorldPlastic Surgery Day today with a meaningful programme dedicated to the theme, "Restore Life After Bums".

Held at the General OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital, Imphal, the event highlighted the transformative impact of plastic and reconstructive surgery in restoring form and function, especially for bum survivors.

As per a release issued by RIMS, the event was graced by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital; Prof G Nilamani Sharma, former Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, RIMS; Dr Khundongbam Palin, chairman-cum-managing director, Shija Hospitals, Langol; and Dr Thingujam Digel Singh, president, Rotary Club of Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma highlighted the vital role of plastic surgery beyond aesthetics- focusing on reconstruction, restoration, and rehabilitation.

He acknowledged the presence of three eminent plastic surgeons, including the pioneer of the specialty in the State.

Praising the dedicated efforts of the Plastic Surgery Department at RIMS in managing trauma, bums, and cancer cases, Prof G Sunil Kumar emphasized the need to promote awareness, research, and training to advance this lifechanging specialty.

A key highlight of the event was the distribution of assistive aids to patients suffering from post-bum deformities, an initiative supported by the Rotary Club of Imphal.

The programme also witnessed the felicitation of successfully treated plastic surgery patients, who shared their stories of recovery and resilience.

In a special gesture of appreciation, eminent plastic surgeons of Manipur were honoured by the Director, RIMS Imphal, for their outstanding contributions to the field of reconstructive surgery in the region.

The event was attended by Deputy Director (Admn), Principals of the College of Nursing and Dental College, Heads of Departments, Nursing Officers, faculty members, and staff of RIMS, Imphal.
