Imphal, June 12 2025: Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) will restart its academic session from June 15 with the Outpatient Department (OPD) services set to resume shortly thereafter, according to JNIMS medical superintendent Dr Khumukcham Lokeshwar.

The hospital had ceased all operations from June 1 after floodwaters entered its ground floor, forcing the evacuation of patients and a temporary shutdown of service.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Dr Lokeshwar announced that the academic session at JNIMS will restart on June 15, followed closely by the resumption of the OPD services.

He also informed that the Manipur Fire Service began cleaning operations on June 6, focusing on the waterlogged ground floor of the medical institute.

He expressed gratitude to the fire service personnel and various civil society organisations and public groups that extended support in the post-flood recovery efforts.

Manipur Fire Service sub-officer Seram Ajit said that the department had assisted in evacuating patients from the hospital during the peak of the flood.

Once the water receded, fire personnel carried out cleaning operations across several affected areas including the ante-natal ward, medical superintendent's office, all wards in the ground floor, anatomy block, dental college, administrative block, store department, community kitchen and a water tank with a capacity of around two lakh litres.

He added that the fire service remains committed to providing all possible assistance during such calamities in future.
