Arson act at unused SDC office under probe

Imphal, June 11 2025: Informing that the government building at Yairipok Tulihal, which unknown persons attempted to set on fire on June 8 night is an old, non-functional office of the Tulihal sub-deputy collector (SDC) under Keirao Bitra sub-division left abandoned since 2009, sources said that investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

It is said that the miscreants gained entry into the premises and began destroying and burning leftover furniture, doors and obsolete documents left behind after the office was relocated to a temporary facility at Porompat some 15 years back.

Noting that timely intervention by local residents brought the fire under control before it could cause significant damage, a source maintained that the building was already in a dilapidated condition before the incident.

It further said that as the office is fully functional from its Porompat office, all vital and active official documents were securely stored at the current premises, and no critical records were lost or harmed in the incident.

The incident is, however, under investigation, added the source.
