Sit-ins pitch for ILP implementation demand

Demanding the government to take a firm stand on implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State during the ensuing Legislative Assembly session and to enact land law to protect the indigenous people, women folks of Uripok Khaidem Leikai, Uripok Khoisnam Leikai and Uripok Huidrom Leikai organized a sit-in-protest at Uripok Khaidem Leikai here today.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Salam (O) Ibeyaima, one of the protesters, said that implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State is very necessary taking into account of the present situation, and asserted that the rampant influx of non-locals in the State has posed a serious threat to the survival of the indigenous people.
She demanded the Ministers and MLAs to chalk out necessary steps for implementation of ILP system during the Assembly session to be started from July 11, failing which women folks of the localities along with other civil society organizations will resort to series of intense agitations.
On the other hand, women folks of Singjamei Chingamathak Tomal Leirak staged similar sit-in-protest at Singjamei Chingamathak Tomal Leirak today demanding implementation of ILP system in the State at the earliest and also sought resignation of all the Ministers, if they fail to ensure implementation of the system during the Assembly session.
Several placards with slogans such as 'Implement ILP system in the State', 'Do not let entry of non-locals without permit in the State', 'Save indigenous people of the State' etc, were displayed at the protest demonstration site.
