Governor treasures Dr Mookerjee's role in nation building

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla attended the commemoration of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Sya-ma Prasad Mookerjee at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society, Palace Compound here on Sunday.
During the ceremony, the Governor led the gathering in offering floral tributes to the portrait of Dr Mookerjee, followed by a documentary film highlighting the life and contributions of Dr Mookerjee, and dedication song performed by artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ajay Kumar described Dr Mookerjee as a towering figure in the history of modern India.
Hailing from a Bengali family in Calcutta and becoming the youngest VC of Calcutta University, Dr Mookerjee was a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, visionary leader, and an intellectual of remark able stature, remembered the Governor.
He also highlighted Dr Mookerjee's immense contributions to nation-build ing, apart from being an extraordinary academician.
As one of the key architects of independent India, Dr Mookerjee played a significant role in shaping the country's political and educational landscape.
He was also a strong advocate for national integration and worked tirelessly to uphold the unity and integrity of the nation, said Governor Ajay Kumar, further recalling Dr Mookerjee's pivotal role in the integration of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), and also parts of Punjab and West Bengal, staunch opposition to Article 370 which granted special status to J&K, and firm stance encapsulated in his well-known statement, "Ek desh mein do Vidhan, do Nishan, do Pradhan nahi chalenge", reflecting his unwavering commitment to the principle of one nation, one constitution.
However, his life was cut short on June 23, 1953 while attempting to travel to J&K as part of his protest against Article 370 .
The abrogation of the same on August 5, 2019 helped realise this great leader's dream of a unified India, maintained the Governor.
He then appealed to everyone to remember and draw inspiration from Dr Mookerjee's legacy of selfless service, unwavering commitment to national unity, and fearless pursuit of constitutional integrity, thereby helping to realise India's Vision 2047.Meanwhile, BJP Manipur Pradesh paid floral tributes to party's founder Dr Sya-ma Prasad Mookerjee, on his birth anniversary, during a solemn observance held at party's Nityaipat Chuthek office on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP state president A Sharda Devi noted that Dr Mookerjee's ideology of placing the welfare of the people above personal interests continues to inspire the party's vision and actions.
However, the president declined to answer questions related to the on-going crisis in the state or provide a tentative timeframe regarding the formation of a popular government, when queried by media persons after the formal function.
