DC urges rainwater conservation and harvesting

CCpur, September 03 2026: The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Churachandpur, conducted a meeting on the "Catch the Rain: Work to be done by each Department up to May 31, 2027" campaign at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office on September 2.The meeting was chaired by the Executive Director, DRDA and Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, Krishna Kumar, IAS, and attended by senior district officials and heads of departments concerned, including the ADC, DFO, CEO/ADC, PD/DRDA, ZEO, SDOs/BDOs, and officials from PHED, WRD, PWD, Health, Agriculture, Horticulture and other departments.

The meeting was held to decide the specific works to be undertaken by each line department, identify sources and mechanisms for funding the proposed works, and establish a system for monitoring and reviewing progress up to May 31, 2027.In this regard, Project Director, DRDA, Jameson Hangsing, presented the proposed department-wise contributions and activities under the campaign, which were discussed in detail by the participating departments, with deliberations focusing on their respective roles, proposed works, funding arrangements and implementation responsibilities.

Addressing the officials, the Deputy Commissioner urged all heads of departments to take concrete measures for rainwater conservation and harvesting, with particular emphasis on establishing rooftop rainwater harvesting systems in every government department and office.

He stressed that rainwater harvesting should be treated as an essential component of water conservation rather than merely as a campaign activity.

Krishna Kumar also directed the departments to strictly adhere to the prescribed timelines for completing the activities under the Catch the Rain campaign and called upon officers to ensure timely planning, execution and reporting of the works assigned to their respective departments.

He further emphasised the need to identify overlaps among departmental schemes and programmes so that similar works are neither undertaken nor reported more than once, ensuring better coordination, accountability and optimal utilisation of resources.
