Stage set for people's convention: COCOMI

Informing that all preparations for the "Manipur People's Convention on two years of Manipur Crisis" have been made, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) convenor Khuraijam Athouba stated that resolutions concerning the state would be adopted during the convention.
In a press meet held at COCOMI's office in Lamphelpat on Friday, Athouba informed that the convention would begin at 11.30 am Saturday at the parking lot near Khuman Lampak Indoor stadium.
A candle light vigil would then be carried out at the eastern gate of Kangla around 6 pm in remembrance of all those who lost their lives in the conflict.
Regarding potential traffic issues during the event, he informed that talks were held with the SPs of Traffic Control Police and Imphal West district police and necessary arrangements have been made, and appealed for mass participation.
COCOMI Sub-committee convenor in-charge YK Dhiren informed that all attendees with vehicles can enter through the Stadium gate on Dingku Road or the 9IRB gate, adding that all vehicles would be parked inside the sports complex.
Attendees entering via Lamlai road are to cross Lamlong Bridge to enter through the 9IRB gate, while those from Thoubal side are to cross Singjamei Bridge and pass through Kongba Road till Lamlong and Minuthong before arriving at the stipulated entry gate.
Those arriving from Bishnupur are to pass through Khongnang Ani Karak to Dingku road to enter via the gate, he said.
He further informed that the attendees can park their vehicles in the empty spaces in and around the main stadium, hockey stadium, canoeing, kayaking, cycle velodrome, Kang, swimming pool and MOA office.
Dhiren then appealed to all inter-state and district transport associations to help in transporting the people to and from the venue.
Although COCOMI would be arranging some transport for those coming from afar, he appealed to the local clubs, Meira Paibi and other organisations to extend their support for the same.
Meanwhile, COCOMI Women Wing convenor RK Tharaksana appealed to all concerned not to organise any entertainment programmes on Saturday, and to reschedule any fixed events for another day, encouraging the people to attend the convention.
