The event was attended by Prof Bimol Akoijam as the chief guest.
The programme commenced with members of the Meitei Pangal community of Assam felicitating the dignitaries with traditional Lengyan, reflecting cultural solidarity and support.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Shanti Kumar highlighted the challenges faced during his campaign, stating that despite initial resistance from certain sections in Joypur, the support extended by villagers in allowing him to hold the meeting was commendable.
He alleged that apprehensions over a Meitei candidate's potential victory in the reserved constituency have influenced efforts to deter voters from supporting him.
He also criticised the delay in granting an Autonomous Council for Meitei community in Assam, despite prior announcements by the State Government.
Further, he assured that if the Congress comes to power in Assam, justice for Assam's Heartthrob Zubeen Garg would be delivered.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, MP Bimol Akoijam expressed his deep attachment to Lakhipur and voiced concern over the deteriorating condition of the Meitei community in Assam and Tripura.
He noted that the region holds historical significance as a place once associated with Lamyanba Hijam Irawat.
Highlighting the need for unity, he lamented internal divisions within the community and urged voters to come together in support of Dr Shanti Kumar.
Drawing parallels with his own electoral victory in Manipur, Akoijam appealed to the people of Lakhpur to cast their votes collectively and give the Congress candidate an opportunity to serve the constituency.
The programme witnessed participation from local residents, community members, and party supporters, marking an important step in the ongoing election campaign in the region.
