Imphal, July 01 2025: The inaugural function of the 76th Van Mahotsav, 2025 was held at Kamjong district headquarters on Tuesday with chief conservator of forests (T-II) Gaithaolu Thaimei as chief guest, Kamjong DC Rangna-mei Rang Peter as functional president and SP Ningshem Vashum as guest of honour.

After the formal programme, a tree plantation programme around Kamjong town was carried out with the participation of all the dignitaries present.

As a part of the plantation drive themed 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' which will continue till July 7, roadside plantations from Kamjong Forest gate to 8 Assam Rifles gate will have tree guards made of plastic bottles so as to beat plastic pollution.

The function was also attended by District Level Officers, representative of 8 Assam Rifles Chassad, Border Security Forces, village chiefs, members of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, Raizan and Kamjong Students' Union.

The 76th Van Mahotsav, 2025 also got underway in Kakching and Chandel districts on Tuesday.

In Kakching district, the launch event was attended by chief conservator of forests Longjam Joykumar as chief guest, and Thoubal DFO Dr Leishangthem Jeeceelee as president while YAS director Dr Mayengbam Veto, Mayeng Lamjao Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee chairperson Urikhinbam Narjit Luwang and Alliance for Development Alternative Manipur (ADAM), Kakching secretary Surjit Kshetrimayum were the guests of honour.

The inaugural function for Chandel district held at 21 AR headquarters located at Modi village was also attended by L Joykumar Singh as chief guest, 21 AR CO Col Dr Akbar as president and Chandel DFO Dr Naorem Munal Meitei as guest of honour.

After the formal function, around 450 officers and personnel of Assam Rifles along with forest staff planted around 1050 saplings.

NONEY: The 76th Van Mahotsav 2025, organised by the Noney Forest Division, was held on Tuesday at Khumji Part-3, Noney district.

More than 1,000 saplings, including fruit-bearing trees, were planted during the mass plantation drive.

The programme was attended by DFO (Urban) and Van Mahotsav nodal officer Wungrin Lansing, Noney SP Namsadai Peter; ADM Stiff Kapudang, DFO D John Sha, and RFO Thaithuilung Pamei as special guests.

Additionally, Khumji Village Authority chairman SK Athaipou, along with CSO leaders, students, teachers, and security personnel, participated in the mass tree plantation drive.

Similar drives were also conducted in Nungba and Khoupum in collaboration with various organisations.

Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, DFO D John Sha, underscored the need to plant more trees to protect the environment.

He encouraged the public, various agencies, NGOs, CSOs, students, and government organisations to actively participate in tree planting and understand the importance of trees and their benefits for sustainable living.

The DFO also stated that, during this week-long programme, the division aims to plant one lakh (100,000) saplings across the district.

SENAPATI : The Senapati Forest Division celebrated Van Mahotsav by planting trees along a 1-km stretch from the DRDA Office, Senapati, to the Assam Rifles Camp, on Tuesday.

Initiated in 1950 by the then Union Minister of Agriculture, Dr KM Munshi, Van Mahotsav aims to promote afforestation and environmental awareness, encourages tree planting to increase green cover, combat deforestation, and highlight the importance of trees for ecological balance and human well-being.

This year's theme, "Ek Pd Maa Ke Naam 2.0", urges citizens to plant a tree in their mother's name, symbolising the nurturing bond between a mother and child.

The slogan for 2025 is "Plant a Tree, Secure Our Future", emphasising the role of tree planting in ensuring a sustainable tomorrow.

The Van Mahotsav 2025 celebrations in the district involved 200 participants from schools, colleges, DLOs, CSOs, student bodies, police, army personnel, church leaders, women's societies, VDVK members, and representatives from various banks in Senapati.

The kick-off event was held with Addl PCCF Soreiphy Vashum, as chief guest, Senapati DC Mamoni Doley as guest of honour, and Addl SP ML Kaisungbou as special guest.

To mark the occasion, Senapati Forest Division conducted a mass tree plantation drive across the district, planting over 200 seedlings.

The department aims to plant 1 lakh seedlings during the first week of July 2025 and has called upon all citizens to join the effort for a successful Van Mahotsav.

According to Shanngam S, the division had undertaken roadside plantation with avenue trees as part of the celebrations.

He expressed enthusiasm over the use of recycled plastic bottle as tree guards and outlined plans for further plantation drives in collaboration with rangers, beat officers, and villagers, aligning with this year's theme.

JIRIBAM: As part of the nationwide celebration of the 76th Vana Mahotsav Week also known as the festival of tree and forest, a Divisional Level Vana Mahotsav Week Celebration, 2025 was inaugurated in a function held at Jiri College on Tuesday.

The inauguration function organised by office of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Jiribam on the theme "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" Plant Trees, Save Trees, Lend a Hand to Make Our Manipur Greener" emphasising the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability was attended Jiribam deputy commissioner Krishna Kumar, superintendent of police Shaikh Mohd Zaib Zakir, and DFO Elangbam Nirmala Chanu as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Kumar called upon all concerned to adopt good practices for promoting conservation of forest and combatting deforestation and climate changes in view of the pressure on earth and increase in population.

He also stressed the need to promote afforestation, conservation of natural resources and environmental awareness to each and every individual.

The weeklong celebration encourages people to participate in tree plantation drives and adopt sustainable practices to protect the environment.

Through this initiative, office of the DFO seeks to foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment and promote a greener future for the generations to come.

The DFO targets plantation of 10,000 seedlings during the weeklong celebration along with the involvement of line department, security forces, students, clubs, and Meira Paibi groups at various location of Jiribam and additional 90,000 seedlings through various schemes like NBM, CAMPA, GIM, etc.

As part of the celebration a ceremonial tree plantation led by the DC was held at Jiri College campus.

The function was attended by 7th IRB CO Semmi Ramror, Jiribam ADC Th Manoranjan Singh, 156 Bn CRPF CO Kanhaiya Singh, forest department and district level officers, teachers and students of Jiri College as well as from various schools.
