Climate, environment changes threaten all life: Dr Brajakumar

Imphal, May 30 2026: The combined impact of climate change and environmental degradation now poses a grave threat to humans and all living beings by eroding their habitats, Director of Environment and Climate Change Dr Tourangbam Brajakumar said today.

He was speaking at a State Level Symposium Competition for college students organised by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur, ahead of World Environment Day 2026.The event was held under the UN theme 'Inspired by Nature.

Altogether 22 colleges from across Manipur took part in the competition held at the Directorate's hall in Porompat.

Prof S Jibonkumar of Manipur University's Department of Anthropology moderated the symposium, while Dr Kananbala Sarangthem of Botany Department, MU; Dr Ngangbam Romeji of NIT Manipur; and Sonia Wahengbam of Mass Communication Department, MU were jury members.

Dr Brajakumar said climate and environment are now changing together, causing severe impacts on biodiversity and human survival.

"The symposium aims to make people, especially students, aware of the crisis and their role in protecting the planet", he said.

He added that preparing for such competitions helps students discuss the issues with teachers, peers, and families, spreading awareness that will aid conservation.

Similar essay and quiz contests for schools are also being held ahead of June 5 .

"World Environment Day is not just for remembrance.

We must constantly understand our link with nature and work together to save Mother Earth for future generations", Dr Brajakumar said.
