Students burn effigies of top officials

Imphal, May 28 2025:
Students of Standard College, Kongba burnt the effigies of Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh today protesting against the controversial Gwaltabi incident.
After burning the effigies in front of the college gate, the students chanted slogans, but their protest was interrupted by the arrival of police, leading to a standoff.
The police eventually doused the burning effigies.
The protest was staged under the aegis of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), students' front.
Speaking to the media, general secretary of Standard College Students' Union (SCSU) Asem Vibeckraj said that the Gwaltabi incident severely undermines the State's identity.
He expressed disappointment over the Governor's silence on the issue, saying it has hurt the sentiments of the people of Manipur.
The Governor must issue a public apology, he demanded.
