Assam Rifles conducts tree plantation drive in Pherzawl

Pherzawl, July 27 2026: Assam Rifles organised a tree plantation drive at Aina Church in Pherzawl district on July 26 as part of an environmental conservation initiative.

According to a statement issued by IGAR (South), the programme aimed to increase green cover, preserve ecological balance and promote environmental stewardship through community participation and civil-military collaboration.

Around 50 local residents and church members, along with Assam Rifles personnel, took part in the drive and planted 250 saplings within and around the church premises.

The saplings included teak, neem, banyan, peepal, mango, jackfruit, guava, amla, gulmohar.

kadam, ashoka and bamboo, selected to enhance local biodiversity and support long-term environmental sustainability.

During the programme, participants were sensitised to the importance of afforestation, conservation of natural resources and collective environmental responsibility.

They also pledged to nurture the newly planted saplings and ensure their healthy growth.

The initiative further strengthened the bond between the security forces and local residents while promoting community awareness and collective efforts towards building a greener and healthier environment for future generations.
