Assam Rifles commemorates World Earth Day with Swachhta drives across Manipur

In a resounding commitment to environmental conservation and the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan', the Assam Rifles organised a series of comprehensive cleanliness and 'Shramdaan' drives across various districts of Manipur from April 22 to 24, 2026.According to a release issued by the IGAR.
(South), the initiatives were organised in observance of World Earth Day, celebrated globally to promote awareness about environmental protection.
The theme for 2026, 'Our Power, Our Planet', emphasises the collective agency of communities in driving sustainable change, a sentiment that resonated throughout the activities in the region.
The sequence of events commenced on April 22 at Sangaikot Government Upper Primary School, Churachandpur District, where 15 officials and troops joined 200 students, 10 teachers and 20 villagers to ensure systematic waste collection and disposal, effectively reinforcing the importance of protecting the ecosystem.
On April 23, similar efforts were undertaken at Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district, where troops, along with local residents, carried out thorough cleaning of public spaces to restore hygienic conditions.
The initiative culminated on April 24 at Komlakhong in Imphal West district with a 'Shramdaan' drive involving officials, troops, local youth, Meira Paibis and village elders.
Beyond physical cleaning, the Assam Rifles conducted awareness sessions on sustainable waste management and the role of residents in environmental protection.
The interactions served as a platform to strengthen civil-military relations and mutual trust through collaborative action.
Local headmen and residents expressed gratitude for the leadership shown in improving living standards.
The drives concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to maintain the upkeep of their surroundings for future generations.
